2017 Lodging Information

The Snowbird Resort will be completely booked during this year's Alta Argumentation Conference, so please secure your housing as soon as possible. Housing reservations must be completed by June 20, 2017 to receive the conference rate.

The 2017 NCA/AFA Summer Conference on Argumentation will be held on July 20-23 at the Snowbird Resort in Utah. At the Cliff Lodge of the Snowbird Resort in Utah, all reservations should be made directly through Snowbird’s Central Reservation Office by calling 1-800-453-3000/801-947-8220 or by emailing lodging@snowbird.com. Be sure to identify yourself as part of the Alta Argumentation Conference to secure the package rates. Our group name is #ALTA17.

*In order to receive the graduate student rate, your name must be on the approved list. If you are a graduate student with a paper or abstract accepted to the conference, then your name will automatically be added to the approved list. If you are a graduate student who would like to receive the discounted rate but do not have a paper/panel accepted, please contact Dr. Robin Jensen (jensenrobine@gmail.com). Graduate students must make their reservations via phone (not e-mail) during regular business hours (seven days a week from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. MDT).

In addition to the graduate student rate, there are a limited number of scholarships available to defray the costs of staying at Snowbird. If you wish to apply for a scholarship, please indicate your interest to the conference director – Dr. Carol Winkler (alta@gsu.edu) – and ask your advisor to send a letter of support, if you did not do so when you submitted your paper/panel/abstract.

Snowbird Package Amenities:

• 3 nights lodging, taxes, and resort fees for a standard queen/queen room at the Cliff Lodge. Participants and/or observers may be housed in lodges other than the Cliff, if necessary, based on occupancy.

• All meals, breaks and receptions from dinner on Thursday (July 20) to dinner and a reception on Saturday night (July 22)

• High-speed wireless internet in lodging rooms and most public space, free self parking at all lodges plus valet at the Cliff, use of pools, hot tubs, free yoga classes, fitness room, laundry facilities, in-room Cliff coffee, Lodge at Snowbird lobby beverages, USA Today, 800 number calls, free faxing and 15 minutes daily computer use in the business center.

• Access to the 9th and 10th floor spa facilities, with 20% off on certain treatments.

• One $35.00 Snowbird gift card per person per stay. Cards may be used in Snowbird-owned facilities. Conference participants may also use the gift card for the Alta Argumentation Conference Sunday brunch on June 23, 2017.

* Package rates apply to all conference attendees and their guests. Guests who are planning to attend the meals (but not the conference sessions) must pay the full package price.

* Additional nights/extended stays are available at the rate of $129 per night plus taxes and a $15 resort fee.

* Vegetarian options will be available at all meals. If you need vegan or gluten free options, please contact Alley Agee (agee.alley@gmail.com).

Meals Only Package: For those not staying at Snowbird, we offer a separate meals package for $516.00. This includes all meals from lunch on Thursday (July 20) through dinner on Saturday (July 22). All service charges and taxes are included in this amount. Payment for the Meals Only package can be made through the online registration process and must be provided at least 10 days in advance of the conference.

Deposits/Payment: Housing Reservations must be received by Snowbird before June 20, 2017. A one-night deposit of 1/3rd of the total package is required at the time the reservation is made. Final balance for the entire stay will be automatically charged to the credit card on file five (5) days prior to the arrival date. The individual reservation lodging deposit is fully refundable up to five (5) days prior to the arrival date. Reservations cancelled within five (5) days prior to the arrival date will be fully non-refundable in the amount of the entire stay. After check-in, reservations are fully non-refundable. No-shows, delayed arrivals and early departures are considered cancellations.

Check In/Out: Check-in time is 4:00 p.m. and is guaranteed by 6:00 p.m. Snowbird will make every effort to check guests in prior to that time if rooms are available. Check-out time is 11:00 am. Luggage storage is available through bell service for guests arriving prior to check-in time and for those involved in meetings or activities that extend past check-out time. Photo ID is required at check-in along with a credit card or cash deposit for incidental charges. Debit cards are not recommended. Check-out time is 11:00 a.m. on Sunday.

Airport Transportation: Airport shuttles may be arranged while booking lodging through Snowbird Central Reservations (800-453-3000) or up to 48 hours prior to arrival. Current pre-paid price for groups is $72.00 per person round trip or $38.00 each way. Walk-up passengers are accepted on a space and rate available basis at the Canyon Transportation desk located in the baggage claim area of the Salt Lake City International Airport. Cancellations received within 48 hours of arrival are non-refundable. Driver gratuity not included and prices are subject to change.

Roommates: You are responsible for arranging for roommates on your own. Snowbird and the local host will not automatically assign roommates. However, the local host will compile a list of people seeking roommates. If you would like to be on and receive a copy of this list, please be sure to check the appropriate box on the registration form (online or hard copy). Additional Details: Family or guests not participating in any portion of the conference but only sharing the room as a guest may stay at no extra occupant charge. Package is based on a 3-night minimum stay. Shortened stays and early departures will be charged in full. No portion of package price will be refunded for shortened stays or unattended events.
